The alliance which was formed ahead of the 2017 elections has, however, been limping since a few months after the polls, and has completely gone silent, raising questions from Kenyans.

Speaking on Thursday, Mudavadi admitted that the alliance has to some extent lost its footing, likening it to a sleeping political side, but maintained that it remains alive.

He said that for the coalition to be considered dead, three of the founding parties must leave.

"NASA inasinzia tu maana ndio ife lazima tatu kati ya zile vyama tanzu vijiondoe na hilo halijafanyika. (NASA is only sleeping. For it to die, then three of the founding parties must exit, which is yet to happen)," he said.

The leader made the remarks during an interview on Radio Citizen's Mjadala Wa Citizen show on Thursday morning.

He said he remains in the opposition and will push to ensure that the alliance is revived and proceeds to address the needs of Kenyans by keeping the government in check.

"Mimi siko serikalini. Nitasimama kama mpinzani kutetea wakenya. Hii ndio maana naongea sana maana wafuasi wetu wanalalamika. (I am not in government. I will stand as the opposition to defend Kenyans and that is why in have been very vocal lately, because our supporters have began complaining),"he said.
