Nyeri Town lawmaker Ngunjiri Wambugu has questioned the ongoing fuss about Deputy President William Ruto's 2022 ambitions and the excitement in his camp over the same.
Speaking on Citizen TV's JKL show on Wednesday night, the MP called for calm in the DP's camp, as the group grows more suspicious of the union between the Jubilee party and the opposition bloc.
Wambugu noted that the DP should stop thinking that the truce between President Uhuru Kenyatta and opposition boss Raila Odinga is a weapon formed against him, as it is not.
According to Wambugu, the two leaders are simply doing what they think is good for the country, adding that the DP should not object the union thinking that they are out to fight his presidential dreams.
He noted that the truce has been very beneficial to the country, and cannot be broken simply because Ruto thinks that it will frustrate his future plans.
"This country is more important than Ruto’s ambition to be president; he needs to stop thinking that everything that is happening in this country will affect his ambition," he said.
The lawmaker who is part of the Kieleweke faction of Jubilee termed Ruto as the cause of the confusion in the party and in the county over the handshake.
He noted that every other Kenyan is behind the handshake, apart from the DP, adding that if his bid was to be removed from the handshake, then everything would proceed smoothly.
"If you removed Ruto’s ambition from the handshake nobody would have a problem with it," said the MP.
