Just like Ruto, Oparanya has since hinted at vying for the presidency in the 2022 general elections, upon the lapse of his second and last gubernatorial term.

Led by Ikolomani MP Bernard Shinali, Ruto's allies are painting an image of a possible entry of Oparanya into Ruto's block, ahead of the much-awaited contest.

Shinali also claims that area leaders are in agreement to vote as a bloc in Ruto's favour come 2022, after an alleged recent meeting at his official residence in Karen, Nairobi.

The remarks were echoed by Mumias East lawmaker Bernard Washiali who vowed to rally behind Ruto and give him all the support he needs, terming the DP 'a close friend'.

“It is not possible for me to turn my back on a friend who has stood with me all along since we met. I will stand with him to the end,” he told the Standard.

However, Oparanya who remains silent on his alleged plans to join hands with the DP has since come out to rubbish claims of having been tipped to be Ruto's running mate in 2022.

The county boss seems to be receiving more attention courtesy of his recent achievement after his recent nomination to head the Council of Governors (CoG).

He doubles up as the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) deputy party leader.
