The 2017 presidential election results didn’t reflect the will of the people of Kenya, ANC leader Musalia Mudavadi has insisted.
In an interview with The Standard on Tuesday, Mudavadi, who has hinted at contesting for the nation’s top seat, said that former Prime Minister Raila Amolo Odinga and his running mate Stephen Kalonzo Musyoka won the election.
He noted that the two leaders were popular and Kenyans proved the same on the ballot only for the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) to steal their victory.
He said that there is no way Kenya will have credible elections unless the commission is reconstituted.
He appealed to the leaders in the country to ensure that radical changes are undertaken with immediate effect to ensure credibility and fairness in subsequent elections. Uhuru and Raila have since changed their political tones in the spirit of the handshake.
“I still believe our victory was stolen in 2017 and we must correct and deal with IEBC,” he said.
Mudavadi also said that he is ready to face any candidate in the race to succeed President Uhuru Kenyatta if the exercise is conducted in a free and fair manner.
He also said that Deputy President William Ruto is not the right successor of the President because he has been mentioned in endless scandals.
