In 2017, Buzeki lost to current governor Jackson Mandago despite his well oiled campaign.

However his recent moves and behaviors within the county clearly indicates that he is determined to clinch the seat in 2022 either by wallet or by votes.

Uasin Gishu county will experience a hot political contest as Deputy President William Ruto who also hails from the county will also be trying to clinch the top seat in the country.

Several leaders have been rumored to be eying to succeed Mandago among them Senator Prof. Margaret Kamar, Kesses MP Dr Swarup Mishra and recently DP Ruto’s right hand man Farouk Kibet.

However, all these politicians cannot match Buzeki's ability.

There is only one threat to Buzeki's aspirations and that is the presence of Kenya’s Ambassador to Pakistan Dr Julius Bittok.

Just like Buzeki, Dr Bittok had tried his luck for the seat in 2013 but was beaten by Mandago during the then United Republican Party (URP) primaries.

Bittok’s close confidants have hinted his presence at the ballot and it is clear that no business will be as usual.

It should be remembered that Mandago won against Buzeki largely because the race was much of an ethnic competition.

Buzeki is from the Keiyo community while Mandago comes from the populous Nandi community.

Just like Mandago, Dr Bittok is a Nandi and his job as an ambassador has obviously loaded his pockets, a basic need for Kenyan politics and this will equal him to the flamboyant Buzeki.

Uasin Gishu residents will however have the opportunity to make their decision irrespective of tribe, wealth or popularity and this still makes the outcome of the race unpredictable.
