Deputy President William Ruto and Baringo Senator Gideon Moi are currently considered the main political bulls in the Rift Valley region ahead of the 2022 general polls.

It's an open secret that DP Ruto will be seeking to succeed his boss, President Uhuru Kenyatta while Senator Moi has not yet publicly declared his interest for  the top seat.

However, it is widely believed that the son of the retired President Daniel Moi is also eyeing the seat, a move that has led to bitter exchanges between politicians allied to the two.

Despite all the support he seems to be enjoying and the loud noises coming from his allies, it will be hard for DP Ruto to beat Senator Moi, were they to face off in the race.

The silent Senator Moi appears more acceptable to most Kenyans as compared to Ruto who has severally been captured hurling insults at fellow leaders, with the same coming from his allies.

For instance, he has severally been heard referring to opposition leader Raila Odinga as 'Mganga' (witchdoctor) and 'Mtu was vitendawili (the riddler).

He seems to have forgotten  that he will need support from every politician available and every Kenyan, including Raila's Luo Nyanza bedrock to win.

Moi, on the other hand, seems more humble and easy-sell to most parts of the nation and also has more political friends than Ruto having not been engaged in any political scuffle so far.

Also, Ruto is an embattled man who was recently ranked among the most corrupt Kenyans by an Ipsos Synovate poll, a factor that is likely to push Kenyans away under the fear that he will milk the nation dry once he becomes President.

On the other hand, Senator Moi who hails from a rich family seems the best man from the region to be placed near public funds.

The Baringo Senator is a scion of former President Daniel Moi, one of Kenyans richest men supposedly.

Mzee Moi seems to have mentally overpowered Gideon on matters regarding support seeking, and has been seen seeking friendship with top leaders.

Earlier in December, the latter was in Kakamega County where he met among others, Amani National Congress (ANC) leader Musalia Mudavadi in what is thought to be a brewing allience.

Mudavadi is ranked among the most popular leaders in the region and one of its kingpins.

Ruto, on the other hand, has been going for weaker parliamentarians who have no say in their regions, a good instance being the likes of Kilifi lawmaker Aisha Jumwa at the Coast.

In Western, he has been hanging out with the likes of former Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale. This is a man who lost to Raila's ally Wycliffe Oparanya in the concluded Kakamega Governor's seat.

With the ongoing Rift Valley battle likely to grow into a national competition in 2022, Gideon Moi will definitely emerge the top against Ruto.

And if the region is the one to produce our next President, then Moi is the one, in my opinion.
