Even as the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) intensifies its probe on the latest scam in town, reports indicate that Bungoma Senator Moses Wetang'ula has jetted out of the country to a avoid getting arrested.
Revealing details about Wetang'ula's whereabouts on his twitter handle, controversial city blogger Robert Alai claimed that Wetangula was in China, having 'escaped' on Saturday night.
Alai, however, defended suspect Jared Otieno claiming he was just being used to hide some powerful individuals behind the gold scam.
"Senator Wetangula escaped from the country to China last night. Jared Otieno was arrested because of a “loan” with a Chinese man. Jared was apparently not involved in the UAE gold scam but is being used to mask the true powerful scammers," Alai tweeted.
Amid the developments, several other powerful individuals including President Uhuru Kenyatta, ODM leader Raila Odinga and Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr Fred Matiang'i have reportedly been mentioned in the multimillion gold scam pitting a Dubai royal family.
On Friday, an audio recording allegedly of Senator Wetangula leaked online with Kenyans on social media seizing the moment to fire shots at the flamboyant governor.
The incident has since captured the attention of the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) Nordin Haji who has called for tolerance as DCI detectives commence investigations into the matter.
