President Uhuru Kenyatta was on Tuesday awarded by the African Union Commission for being the first Head of State to host the world's first Blue Economy Conference.

African Union Commission Chair Moussa Faki Mahamat appreciated President Kenyatta for mobilising resources and organising a successful conference. 

In a tweet, President Kenyatta thanked the commission for the award and vowed to work towards improving the status of marine resources in the country and Africa at large.

"I am honoured to have received an award from the AU Commission over the successful hosting of the world's first Sustainable Blue Economy Conference. The commitments and partnerships forged at the conference reflect our zeal to harness and protect our maritime resources," he tweeted.

The conference started on Monday 26th November and will come to an end today.

The event held at the Kenyatta International Convention Center (KICC) brought together over 4,000 delegates that include Head of States, Ambassadors, Governors, Mayors among others.
