Uasin Gishu Governor Jackson Mandago has been seen as the strongest and influential politician among the North Rift leaders.
He is serving his last term in office and some locals hope the vocal county boss will get an appointment to the national government or opt for another elective position so as to remain politically relevant.
Joseph Kogei, a local in the county suggests that Mandago should remain in politics by vying for a senatorial position in next polls.
“Mandago should vie for another position to remain in politics after 2022. He is a young and resourceful leader given his current leadership skills,” Kogei said.
Recently the governor led section leaders to former Bomet governor Isaac Ruto's backyard in a bid to back Deputy President William Ruto's presidential candidacy.
“The governor has charismatic personalities, more instrumental in containing rebels within his backyard and he will play a huge role to marshal DP’s support,” Sostyn Bore, a political science practitioner in Eldoret stated also noting that Mandago is a potential tool to be used and his political shrewdness is not something to write off.
Sara Tigio, a business lady in Eldoret also lauded the second term governor for his development record so far though he appealed that he (Mandago) should work hard to substantively stand out among the local leaders.
“Now that DP is a national figure, we should see other budding leaders emulating him on development matters,” said Tigio.
