A 28-year-old woman accused of killing her son in Maili Sita, Bahati sub-county has been referred to Mathare Hospital after she was found unfit to stand trial.
Justice Joel Ngugi directed the suspect be admitted for a period of two months at the mental facility where she is to be monitored.
Wangari's parents who were present in court revealed that their daughter had been undergoing treatment for mental disorders saying she might not have been in her right state of mind when she committed the act.
A psychiatric report done by Dr Joseph Njau revealed that Wangari has been suffering from a chronic neurological disorder which requires urgent treatment. The report further noted that the woman was on and off medication when the offence occurred.
Njau observed that the suspect needs to undergo a supervised psychiatric examination with close monitoring for her well being.
The matter was slated for mention on July 8 to get a report from the mental hospital.
