Trade unionist Francis Atwoli is in trouble over a remark he made on Saturday while attending a function in Lamu.
Atwoli, while addressing participants, said that the name of Deputy President William Ruto will not be on the ballot during the 2022 presidential elections.
He said it is in accordance with God's plan the DP Ruto will not be on the ballot to contest for the Presidency.
The remarks were construed by the DP Ruto's political supporters as a threat to his life.
Kericho Senator Aaron Cheruiyot said the remark should not be taken lightly as there could be plans to eliminate the DP before the 2022 elections.
The senator said the utterance by Atwoli revived memories of the murder of former Kabete MP and trade unionist George Muchai.
“The threat by Atwoli that WSR will not be on the ballot come 2022 shouldn't be taken lightly. The late Hon Muchai and Atwoli disagreed on COTU leadership, by election time he was for sure not on the ballot,” Cheruiyot said.
Kapseret MP Oscar Sudi, another diehard supporter of Ruto, called on the Directorate of Criminal Investigations to question Atwoli over his remarks.
Another twitter user @PeratoN_Senior cautioned the DP to take his security seriously.
