In 2017 polls, he contested Uasin Gishu gubernatorial elections on Independent ticket after losing in controversial Jubilee primaries to Governor Jackson Mandago. He however lost narrowly during polls having scored 148,000 votes.
On Sunday at his Ainabkoi home, Bundotich who hosted over 6,000 people, said he had consulted widely before settling on the party associate with former Bomet Governor Isaac Ruto
“After wide consultations, we have decided to move to CCM and from today there is no reverse gear. We will move to make CCM the most popular and grassroots-based party in Kenya," he said.
On the eve of Labour Day, Bundotich held closed-door meeting with Mr Ruto in Nairobi. Moiben MP Silas Tiren, a critic of DP William Ruto also attended the meeting.
According to him, plans to revamp CCM party have started ahead of 2022 polls. He said several top Jubilee leaders will decamp to CCM soon due to dictatorship in President Uhuru Kenyatta led party.
