Maalim says that the austerity measures that the Jubilee government is taking are not enough in taming rising wage bill.

He argues that the government has duplicated state agencies performing the same duties and consuming taxpayer’s money.

The former MP warns that the rising wage bill will drain the county’s economy unless urgent measures are taken.

“Some state agencies should be scrapped out and the budgeted allocation to top offices including the presidency reduced,” he said on Twitter.

Maalim is also rooting for reduction of some elective seats.

He says that Kenyans will continue to pay heavy taxes unless the number of political seats are reduced.

The former MP has, however, kept silent on whether he supports or does not support the referendum push being spearhead by opposition leader Raila Odinga.

The plebiscite debate has heated up with Raila saying it is unstoppable.

A section of politicians among them Garissa Township MP Aden Duale is, however, opposing Raila’s push for referendum terming it a political scheme to get power in 2022.

Duale alleges that Raila is out to lock Deputy President William Ruto from the 2022 presidential election.
