It was a fun filled day as Mombasa Governor Ali Hassan Joho, led the inaugural Governor’s Golf Tournament at the Nyali Golf Club on Sunday.

The tournament which attracted more than 200 golfers, is in line with the County's Sports Development Programme, under the Department of Youth, Sports, Gender and Culture which is led by CeC Charles Munywoki.

The development programme is mandated with searching and nurturing talent across all public schools in the disciplines of football, swimming, basketball and golf. 

In partnership with the Nyali and Mombasa Golf clubs, Joho disclosed that the County has already identified 70 under privileged students that will be fully supported and integrated into the junior golfers club. 

"The Governor’s Golf Trophy tournament will be an annual event aimed at diversifying the now growing tourism sector and upgrading the sports tourism that will help attract more visitors into our City," he said.

The governor further commended Aameen Dhanji for winning this years title with 38 points.

"Congratulations to Aameen Dhanji for winning this years title with 38 points (count back). I also wish to thank everyone who played a role to make the event a success."

Several Coast leaders including Changamwe MP Omar Mwinyi and Mombasa Senator Mohammed Faki were present.

Tanzania's bongo superstar and Joho's close friend Ali Kiba entertained participants.
