Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i has approved Wangui Muchiri as the ministry's spokesperson.
Ms. Muchiri, a former NTV Manager and head of defunct National Government Communication team, will officially take over from Mwenda Njoka, another seasoned journalist who has been at the helm.
It is now clear however, why Matiang'i effected the changes and why Njoka had to leave.
Lately, Matiang'i has intensified campaigns in the larger Gusii region with politicians struggling to ascertain his next move.
His parents come from Kisii County and he was born in the neighbouring Nyamira, an advantage that gives him a slight edge should he run as governor in either of the two.
Over the weekend in Nyamira, Matiang'i snubbed ongoing local debate on his candidature but instead focused on matters security.
But sources close to the operations of the super minister claim that he is using a network of teachers to campaign in a bid to succeed Governor John Nyagarama.
At Nairobi, Mr. Nzioka was instrumental in issuing statements on behalf of the minister especially during the controversial 2017 presidential elections.
