Speaking while in the company of opposition leader Raila Odinga in Rongo, Migori County on Thursday, the National Assembly Minority Leader maintained that the proposed changes must be realized.

He advised against any attempts to oppose the same, cautioning among others Deputy President William Ruto of a pending humiliation should he interfere.

"William Ruto has no choice but to support the referendum and if he says no we will defeat him the same way we did in 2010," said the vocal legislator.

Mbadi was part of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) brigade that was in the county to drum support for former Cabinet Minister Ochilo Ayacko for the Migori senatorial seat.

Raila who led the series of rallies termed the changes as the best way forward, noting that no one can stop the push which he pinned on his March 9 truce agreement with President Uhuru Kenyatta.

"It must happen, whoever is opposed can stay aside and meet us at the ballot," said the Orange party leader.

A section of Ruto's allies led by Senate Majority Leader Kipchumba Murkomen and his National Assembly counterpart Aden Duale have, however, since opposed the push, terming it a plot to benefit specific persons.

Ruto led the anti-referendum push in 2010 but lost to the 'Yes' side which Raila was part of.

The opposition side is proposing the expansion of the executive for a more inclusive leadership system, removal of the Senate and the reduction of counties.
