The claims of a plot to assassinate Deputy President William Ruto will surely harm Mount Kenya region, US-based law scholar Prof Makau Mutua has opined.
Mutua said the alleged plot, which is claimed to have been masterminded by four Cabinet Secretaries from the region, will politically neutralise the Kikuyu, despite being the most populous community in the country.
The four CSs who have been dragged into the claims are James Macharia (Transport), Sicily Kariuki (Health), Peter Munya (Trade) and Joe Mucheru (ICT).
The political analyst further observed that the alleged assassination claims against the DP will also leave President Uhuru Kenyatta at a very difficult situation in his bid to secure a lasting legacy and play a critical role in the 2022 succession politics.
"It doesn’t matter whether Ruto’s assassination claim is a head fake, or not. It’s a brilliant move to divide — neuter — the House of Mumbi. It puts Kenyatta between the devil and the deep blue sea. Mumbi’s children will be scattered to the four winds. Wolf among the goats!" Mutua tweeted on Tuesday.
On his part, CS Munya, who is said to be the convener of the meeting at Hotel La Mada, where the alleged plans to eliminate the DP were allegedly made, has vehemently denied the claims, saying the meeting was meant to address challenges facing Central Kenya residents.
"A meeting of over 40 (persons) cannot be a ‘secret meeting’. It was a meeting to look at specific issues that affect development in Central Kenya," he said during an exclusive interview on Citizen TV on Tuesday night.
The Trade CS further accused Ruto of trying to force people to support his presidential bid.
"It is very curious for someone to say that a meeting is being held to allegedly eliminate him. Kenyans should be free to plan and support whoever they want to vote for when the right time comes," he added.
