Deputy President William Ruto's Chief of Staff Ken Osinde has rubbished reports linking him to the unscrupulous payment of Sh21 billion for construction of two dams at Elgeyo-Marakwet County.
Local media widely featured the former ambassador to Germany with an insurance company linked to him purportedly receiving Sh47 million from the Italian company which won the contract.
In a statement to the media on Wednesday, Osinde, who demanded an apology from the media, also dismissed claims that Deputy President William Ruto is represented in the insurance company through a proxy.
"I have read reports in the Nation newspaper linking me with transactions that form part of alleged corruption scandals under investigation."
"Even worse, the report suggests that the Deputy President, in person or through his office, is represented in the board of a company for purposes of illegal business," argued Mr Osinde.
He added: "The implication, profiling and indeed, the entire report is offensive, scandalous, reckless and thoroughly objectionable."
He said that the company in question; Sanlam Insurance, has him as a non-executive director contrary to media reports.
"I have been a non-executive director of Sanlam General Insurance Board since 2015, well before I took up an appointment as Chief of Staff at the Deputy President’s office. "For the record, the Deputy President is not a shareholder, director or does he have any interest in Sanlam General Insurance Board," he claimed.
DCI George Kinoti has summoned 107 directors of various companies for interrogation over the scandal which could see President Uhuru Kenyatta firing a number of ministers implicated.
Already, Treasury boss Henry Rotich, who authorised the payments, has been summoned by parliament over the matter and is said to have grilled by the DCI.
