Machakos Governor Dr Alfred Mutua has said that there is nothing wrong with Mzee Jomo Kenyatta's statue being on Kenya's new currency.
Mutua has since termed the debate that has been on social media about the pictures on the new currency as weak.
"There is a lot of excitement about the new currency with some people running to court about them even though, I bet they have not even seen or held any of the new notes Some people need to really stop being simplistic," Mutua said
The Machakos Governor went ahead to say that there was a difference between a portrait and a statue and there is nothing wrong with Kenyatta's statue on the new notes.
"The people complaining would be OK if it was a statue of a lion or a giraffe. Are these animals important than our founding father Mzee Jomo Kenyatta and our heroes?" he asked.
"The value of money is not the picture or colour that is on it. The value of money is how useful and strong the currency is," he added.
He termed a society that bashes and disregards those who transformed it from colonial imperialism to the freedom they enjoy as a doomed society
"Kenyans should be suggesting to have different statues of Kenyan heroes like Dedan Kimathi, Wangari Maathai, Oginga Odinga, Tom Mboya among others on the new notes instead," he said.
Mutua urged Kenyans to stop getting excited over simple issues because they will make the country remain decked as a third world country.
