Despite all the popularization, it seems a section of Mt Kenya leaders are still not aware of the looming joint tour of President Uhuru Kenyatta and ODM leader Raila Odinga to the region.

The two had promised to go across the country in popularizing their Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) founded after their reconciliation last year, after years of political enmity and hostility between them and their supporters and allies.

However, it seems only a certain group of area leaders have been informed of the visit, these being the 'Kieleweke' faction of the ruling Jubilee Party, which is fully behind the President.

On the other hand is the 'Tanga-tanga' team which is allied to Deputy President William Ruto, whose members now say that they are not privy to anything of the sort.

“We are just hearing from the corridors that Mr Kenyatta and Mr Odinga are planning to tour the region, and we are treating the news as rumours,” Maragua MP Mary Waithira, a staunch supporter of the DP Ruto told the Daily Nation.

'Team Tanga-tanga' has been to some extent opposed to the handshake, with the DP's allies terming it a plot to victimize him.

But forces allied to Uhuru have welcomed the visit, saying that it must be realized.

"We are yet to know the date, but the meeting is there. It is aimed at popularising the handshake and uniting the nation as the President promised after greeting Mr Odinga," said Gatanga MP Nduati Ngugi.

This comes at a time when the two have postponed the tour which was supposed to run between April and May.
