Mutua said the Bill is not as bad as some politicians claim.

According to the governor, the government needs to collect money for development and it can only do so through taxes.

The Maendeleo Chap Chap party leader criticized a section of MPs who he accused of politicizing the bill.

“It is unfortunate that some politicians are using the Finance Bill 2018 to earn political mileage and create divisions among Kenyans,” Mutua said.

He addressed the public in Mwala Sub-county on Saturday.

Mutua said the government can only scale up development if there is money.

The Machakos Governor, however, raised concerns over the budgetary cuts especially on county budgets, saying the decision to reduce budget will slow down development in the counties.

He asked President Uhuru Kenyatta to find other ways to cushion Kenyans even as the new Law takes effect.

Mutua said though the government targets more revenue, it should ensure that Kenyans access basic commodities easily.

On Thursday, Parliament approved the proposed Finance Bill 2018 despite chaotic and unruly scenes witnessed in the House.

Majority of MPs had vowed to reject the bill on grounds that it will hurt Kenyans economically.

The Finance Bill 2018 had received an endorsement from top politicians among them Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka.

President Kenyatta has since signed the bill into Law and is now operational.
