A bright needy girl has internet community to thank after hundreds of well-wishers managed to raise Sh60, 000 within a duration of four hours on Monday for her school fee.
The plight of Hyreen Matara had been highlighted by an online news site, Hivisasa.com which thrilled hundreds of well-wishers, who in return created a group to rescue her.
In an interview, Matara expressed her desire to study at Moi Girls based in Eldoret but the humble background had almost locked her out in next week's enrollment.
"My dream is to join Moi Girls Eldoret. I have received a letter but my hopes have significantly dwindled due to my parents inability to raise school fee. My dream is to become a Neurosurgeon," she narrated.
With online users circulating the article, Nyamira residents who were moved by the tribulations, raised the funds in hope that the girl will in future find a sustainable well-wisher to help her complete school.
Carol Kwamboka, a feminist and human rights activist, said the emergency project would enable the girl to report to school before the family thinks of sustainability.
"What was important is to ensure she reports. I am happy that we have managed to raise some good amount. We shall reach friends to sustain the movement we started," she observed.
High ranking officers among them County Secretary Erick Onchana, Health Minister Douglas Bosire, several directors and ordinary people participated in the online fundraiser.
Already, area Women Representative Jerusha Momanyi, who also took part in the campaigns, said she will ensure that the girl receives funding from NGAAF once the disbursement is done.
"We were only handling the emergency but I don't think the kid will drop out of school. She will receive funding from NGAAF and that is a guarantee," she said.
