A woman in Chiga village, Kisumu County is decrying mistreatment and victimization by her family for allegedly failing to bear a child.
Josephine Achieng’ has since been thrown out by her in-laws, in a dispute seemingly fueled by the death of her husband Odhiambo Oselu in 2014.
Speaking to the Standard on Friday, Josephine accused her in laws of kicking her out of their compound while accusing her of cutting-short their brother’s lineage.
‘’They said there was no need for me to be allowed to continue living in their home because I had no value. They accused me of cutting short their brother’s lineage,’’ she is quoted.
She, however, noted that until his death, Oselu had no issue with their childlessness.
Achieng' added that she came face to face with their hate when she requested for a piece of land to relocate.
The 36-year-old said that she had continued to stay at the corner of the compound until her house began breaking down, after which she requested for land elsewhere to build a new house.
This was met by rejection, prompting members of her Victory SDA church to unite and build her a new house, but barely a month later, on September 16, her in-laws tore it apart.
“The day they came to demolish the house, they told me they had given me the last chance by allowing me to leave. I reported the matter to the chief who referred me to Kondele Police Station. That was the end of the story,” she is further quoted.
Her mother-in-law Elphina Owowo who is now accusing her of disrespect has stood her ground, maintaining that she has to move out.
The matter was confirmed by area Chief Andrew Oguta, but no arrests have been made yet.
