In an interview with NTV on Tuesday, Midiwo said that the high number of government officials is among the reasons President Uhuru has been borrowing loans on a regular basis.

He also argued that the heavy debt burden could plunge the nation into a financial crisis if something is not done in time.

The politician asked the Head of State to revisit the policies of retired President Mwai Kibaki to see where he went wrong so that he can make the necessary adjustments.

“Kibaki brought our debts down. It's not that there was no debt, he thought it was wise to bring it down. Please, your excellency, instead of borrowing, cut the size of the government,” he said.

Midiwo also questioned why Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party leader Raila Odinga had remained silent on the country's big appetite for borrowing.

"When I was in Parliament we got physical to be heard, how is it possible that the people who promised us Canaan cannot tell us that bad debt is bad. Wrong is wrong, and right is right," he added.
