Newly crowned Miss Tourism Nyamira County Bernadette Ogega insists that she dates foreigners only because 'Kenyan men are stingy'.
The former Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology Vice President was crowned over the weekend in Nairobi albeit controversially.
In a past interview, the former Miss Campus said Kenyan men fear dating models in the pretext that they are expensive.
“It’s simple, models are not gold-diggers. It’s time men saw us as fellow human beings who need love and affection. I worked hard for the money I spent on the competitions. I didn’t just get it from some sponsor,” Benita told Campus Vibe.
"She added that, “Kenyan men are stingy. That’s why they avoid models. Foreigners can easily give you Sh200,000 even if what you asked for was just Sh100,000— and they don’t question why you need the money,” said the 21-year-old who dates a foreigner.
The county government of Nyamira abandoned her after residents questioned the mode used to chose participants.
Mr. Pater Muga, who heads the Tourism docket, insisted that he was not aware of the competition.
"I am not aware at all. I have also seen it in the social media," he said.
