Journalists in Lamu County were on Tuesday morning barred from taking photos as officials from the Ministry of Education, County police bosses opened examination container ahead of KCPE.
KCPE kicks-off today, October 30, while KCSE will officially kick-off on November 5, nationwide.
According to William Micheni, the Lamu County Education Director, the coastal county is a security zone.
"You risk arrest if you visit examination centres," Michemi told members of the fourth estate.
Officials from Ministry of Education led by Cabinet Secretary Amina Mohammed, Principal Secretary Belio Kipsang, Kenya National Examination Council (Knec) Board chairman Prof George Magoha and Teachers Service Commission (TSC) Chief Executive Officer Nancy Macharia were in various examination centres countrywide to open examination containers.

Magoha led several government officials in opening of the container and collection of examination materials at Uhuru na Kazi offices in Mombasa.
He affirmed that security had been heightened to avoid any cases of tampering with examination materials.
A total of 1,060,703 candidates are sitting for this year's KCPE exams.
