The residents led by the chairman of the Kilimambogo Settlement Scheme, Paul Kimani, destroyed the barbed wire fence that surrounded the five-acre piece of land.

Kimani claimed that the land had been grabbed by Thika East Deputy County Commissioner (DCC) Tom Sangai in collaboration with chiefs in the area, and later sold it to a businessman in Thika.

The residents marched in protest to the DCC’s office in Thika East, saying they have a court order to stop any development in the said land.

“We have been issued with a court order that we need to serve to the DCC. The court has clearly halted further development on this piece of land because there is a case to be answered by the DCC and the area chiefs who conspired to grab this land,” said Kimani.

On reaching the DCC’s offices, the residents were temporarily blocked by administration police from accessing the office to deliver the court order.

They were later allowed in and delivered the court papers to Thika East Assistant County Commissioner Alex Kaburu, as the DCC was out of the office.

“I will see to it that the DCC receives the court order as soon as he is back,” said Kaburu.
