Mwala residents have called on the government to intensify the war on corruption in Machakos County.
Led by their spokesman Joseph Muthama, the locals said Machakos residents have not benefited from any credible development projects since the August 8, 2017, general elections.
Muthama said Machakos County needs no experts to perceive that taxpayers money has been wasted."It's almost a year since last general elections and we haven't seen any tangible projects, can you convince us that our money is being used well?" Muthama said.He spoke .to this writer in Mwala town on Saturday.Muthama said it is obvious money was mismanaged from the delayed bursaries and stalled projects."We have dozens of stalled projects in the county for over a year, students applied for bursaries which they have never been given until now on the supplementary budget that hasn't been put to work until now," Muthama added. The sentiments were echoed by the Mau Mau War Veterans, Mwala branch chairman Rev. Johnson Kieti who advised leaders to shelve their 2022 political ambitions and embark on delivering to the electorates.Kieti said there are more pressing issues that need to be dealt with other than engaging in premature campaigns.
"All people need is development, campaigns are not helping us. You're paid to serve us and that's what you should do," Kieti said.
