Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) chairman John Mbadi now says a recent decision by Turkana governor Josphat Nanok to declare support for Deputy President William Ruto's 2022 presidential bid was not a surprise.
The Suba MP also noted that most politicians in their last terms are looking for political survival when their term ends.
Nanok is currently serving his second term as the county boss. He is not allowed to vie for the same seat in 2022.
“There is nothing new that has happened, some of the people serving their second and final term are looking for future political survival. Some want to be remembered through appointments in government,” Mbadi was quoted by Nation.
The ODM chairman further noted that they expected the move from the governor after he stopped participating in party affairs and that they knew it was just a matter time before he came out and offer his support to DP Ruto.
Nanok, a former Council of Governors' (CoG) Chairperson and ODM Vice Chairman declared support for Ruto last Saturday when the DP was on a tour in the county.
"As 14 governors from Rift Valley, we are working on a plan to fully support the Deputy President and form the next government because the whole country is focusing on Rift Valley to produce the next president. As Turkana people, we want to be part of that government. I will not accept to be outside government again,” he said as quoted by Nation.
