Days to his anticipated tour of Luo Nyanza, President Uhuru Kenyatta's visit is now facing rejection and opposition courtesy of lawyer Miguna Miguna.
President Kenyatta is expected to land in Kisumu county on Thursday, December 13 for the official launch of the Universal Healthcare Coverage, before moving to the neighboring Siaya county.
But Miguna, a native of Nyando in Kisumu, is now claiming that the president is not welcome in the region, and has called upon Kenyans and residents to show up and protest against his visit.
"I, General Miguna Miguna, the Commander-In-Chief of the NRMKe, hereby declare that the Tyrant @UKenyatta is NOT welcome in Nyanza. I appeal to all patriots and justice-loving Kenyans to turn out in huge numbers and PROTEST against @UKenyatta and TRAITOR @RailaOdinga on Dec. 13!" he tweeted Tuesday.
These remarks seem to emanate from the embattled former Nairobi gubernatorial aspirant's initial claims that Kenyatta ordered for the harassing of opposition supporters in the region after the 2017 elections.
Miguna has remained Kenyatta's chief critic since his reelection in 2017, and has more than once accused him of incompetence and poor leadership.
Uhuru, however, has the support of opposition leader and area kingpin Raila Odinga, who has come out to call upon the people to give the latter a befitting reception on the date.
Area leaders are also excited about the visit and have since made a list of issues they will present to the president for consideration.
