Majority of Kenyans associate Kibera with bad things not knowing that the constituency has many good things.

Here are bad things people should stop associating Kibera with.

1. Extreme poverty

Some people think that Kibera residents are extremely poor.

This misconception is wrong because the constituency hosts rich and famous people.

2. Crime

Some people associate Kibera with deadly criminal gangs and thugs.

While it could be true that there is crime, it is not that serious and law enforcers have often guaranteed residents security.

In the recent days, security in Kibera has been enhanced with residents adopting the 24-hour business system.

3. 'Flying' toilets

Many people associate Kibera with 'flying' toilets.  Such people have the perception that everybody who lives in Kibera ‘flies’ toilets.

While it is true there could be cases of such, people should not exaggerate it.

The government has set public toilets and locals no longer 'fly' toilets.

4. Unfriendly residents

Some people associate Kibera to a place full of unfriendly people.

The fact is that Kibera people are friendly and warm to their visitors.

5. Uneducated people

Some people think that Kibera is full of  people  who have no academic backgrounds. The fact is that Kibera has learned people, some who serve in top government positions.

Kibera has raised top professors, musicians and actors.

Inhabited by Luos

Some people have the perception that Kibera is only populated   by Luos. While Luos could be the majority, the constituency has other tribes like Luhyas, Nubians, Kikuyus and others.

According to MP Ken Okoth, Kibera is a cosmopolitan.

Kibera residents are however known for hard political stands. During General elections, Kibera is always the focus with cases of election violence common.
