Nyantika Mayioro who has been fighting for his life in Christamarianne hospital Kisii finally rested on Sunday the 24th of February 2019. Here are some of the things you never knew about him.
1 He was born in 1931
Nyantika Mayioro was born in the year 1931 in Kiogoro in Nyaribari Masaba in Kisii County. He started his primary education in Nyakegogi Primary school but dropped out to work on his talent in athletics.
2 He was polygamous
Mr Nyantika Mayioro was happily married to his two wives, the first one namely Teresia Mogute and the second Pacifika Monyenche. Teresia bore nine children with Nyantika while Pacifica had five children making a total of fourteen children.
3 He once was a sports officer and manager
Despite being a school dropout, Nyantika Mayioro was once a sports officer in Myamira District and then a Gusii Stadium Manager. This was after his retirement as an athlete.
4 He was termed as a legendary athlete
Nyantika is said to be the legendary athlete because he was the first Kenyan Olympian. In the year 1956, he started a race thirty seconds later but still emerged the winner.
5 He could run barefooted
Can you run with legs bare? I guess you can't. But this is what Nyantika used to do while in the race. He could run barefooted and emerge the winner.
