1. District Commissioner (DC)
Senator Haji began his professional career as an administrator.
He joined the Provincial Administration of Kenya as a DC working in Garissa.
Provincial Commissioner (PC) between 1970 and 1997, Senator Haji worked as a Provincial Commissioner (PC) in the Coast and other regions in the country.
2. Member of Parliament (MP)
In 1998, Haji resigned as PC and ventured into politics and won the Ijara seat on KANU ticket.
