Malindi MP Aisha Jumwa has lost one of her two allies in the Kilifi County Assembly, following the nullification of Ganda MCA Abdulrahman Omar's election.
Omar's 2017 election on an Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party ticket was nullified last month by the Court of Appeal, following a petition by Joseph Kiponda of the Jubilee Party.
Kiponda collaborated with KADU Asili's Reuben Katana, after which County Assembly Speaker Jimmy Kahindi on Thursday confirmed the seat vacant on the floor of the house.
“I, therefore, declare that Honourable Omar ceases being a member of this house and MCA of Ganda Ward and I also withdraw all the privileges and responsibilities conferred to him by the assembly,” said Kahindi, as quoted by the Standard.
Jumwa now remains with only one ally in the assembly, after falling out with a majority of the remaining 54 MCAs, most of whom were elected on an ODM party ticket.
The controversial MP has also fallen out with the party and has been seen attacking it and its leadership after crossing over to Deputy President William Ruto's side.
It is not clear if Omar will be defending his seat after the court directed the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) to hold a by-election.
