In a press conference at Nanyuki Teaching and Referral Hospital on Monday, Muriithi announced that the county will announce these vacancies in the coming days.

"We will be advertising for the vacancies of medical officers but in the meantime, patients will be served by the 24 medical managers in the county, including the Health executive and the chief officer who will be deployed in the two major hospitals in the county," said Mr Muriithi.

The 61 doctors have been on strike from June 3, nearly 23 days. They have been forcing the county to implement the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) and even give them promotions.

According to the governor, the doctors used to earn at least Sh350, 000 per month. They had been told that promotions take time and only happen when there is a vacancy in a post someone wants to be promoted.

"We have to promote equity as an organisation, but in any case, we do not have the resources to accommodate their wishes," said Mr Muriithi.

The county government had gone to the court seeking to stop their go-slow strike. However, when they returned to work, they were served with dismissal letters on Friday.
