The Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital (MTRH) in Eldoret town on Monday signed a Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA)   with the Kenya Medical Practitioners, Pharmacists and Dentists' Union (KMPDU).

It is the first CBA of its kind in the country as it was signed without involving a strike. 

According to the MTRH Chief Executive Officer Dr Wilson Aruasa, the CBA will stipulate how the two institutions will relate with each other.

Speaking after signing the CBA, Dr Aruasa said the document will be registered at the labour court and promised that it will be fully implemented.

"The CBA covers everything to do with the working conditions of members of KMPDU working at MTRH from the time they are recruited, working conditions working hours, training, capacity building, tools of trade up to the point of retirement," he said.

"It also outlines the full spectrum of resource function, alternatives dispute resolution mechanism which includes arbitration and mediation," added the MTRH boss.

KMPDU national Secretary General Ouma Oluga on his congratulated MTRH for being the first hospital in the country for signing a CBA without industrial action and challenged the hospital management to implement it fully.

He noted that the document will be copied not only with other institution but also other unions to encourage harmonious industrial relations.

KMPDU chairman Samuel Oroko was also present during the CBA signing.
