Most of them were conspicuously absent at Nyambaria secondary school where the area County Commissioner, Isaiah Nakoru, and county government officers in charge of youth affairs attended.

The commissioner criticized the youths’ move to demand refreshments and stipends before attending the meeting saying it was bent on ruining their future as responsible citizens of the country.

He wondered how they could learn what the government had in store for their self-advancement if they snubbed public sensitization meetings.

According to him, “The youth should change their attitude and support the government’s efforts to provide a conducive environment and devolved funds for their economic empowerment.”

Nakoru also condemned the youth engagement in illicit brews consumption and drugs which he said wasted their valuable time to start income generating activities.

Beatrice Mogendi, county director Youth Affairs encouraged the youth to join their counterparts at the sub-counties during the week to learn on the activities they will be participating in.

The International Youth Week will be concluded at the national level at Kisii town, Kisii County on August 12, 2018.
