Kisii County Deputy Governor Joash Maangi, while speaking on Friday at Amabuko Secondary school during a fund drive towards the development of Kiamirega and Amabuko catholic Churches Nyaribari Masaba Sub County, said Kenyans must be told the truth before going for a referendum.

"Kenyans are blind on the changes to be made to the constitution. Those pushing for the referendum must come out clear and explain to our people the specific areas to be changed," he said.

Hon. Maangi said the referendum should take place to reduce the wage bill and not creating more posts in government.

He reiterated that politicians should stop politicizing the referendum but, instead be at the forefront pushing for improving livelihoods of poor Kenyans.

"The referendum should not be turned to be a political matter. Leaders should be focused and ensure they are serving the electorates with an aim of boosting lives," he added.

Maangi dismissed claims that the referendum may derail DP Ruto's presidential bid.
