Former Vice President Stephen Kalonzo Musyoka on Friday left the country for the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).
The Wiper leader is expected to attend the funeral of the country's former Prime Minister Etienne Tshisekedi. The deceased is also the father of the incumbent head of state, President Felix Tshisekedi.
Kalonzo revealed that Uhuru sent him to Congo to represent the country. Tshisekedi died in February 2017. His body was kept in Belgium until his son Felix Tshisekedi became President of DR Congo.
On Thursday, supporters arrived on the streets, with posters of a leader they described as a man of the people. Leaders from different parts of the world are expected to attend the burial.
“Departing for the Democratic Republic of Congo where I will be representing President Uhuru Kenyatta and the Kenya Government at the burial of the country's former Prime Minister Etienne Tshisekedi. The Late Etienne is the father of President Felix Tshisekedi. Before our departure, we held consultations with my brother Hon Raila Odinga who was arriving from Ethiopia. God Bless Kenya,” he wrote on his social media page.
The Ukambani political kingpin departed the country after holding a meeting with Former Prime Minister Raila Amolo Odinga at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA). Details of their meeting were, however, remain scanty.
