A week after calling Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Leader Raila Odinga dishonest during the weekly News Gang program on Citizen TV, news anchor Yvonne Okwara Matole is back at it again.
Last week, Yvonne wondered why Raila had accompanied President Uhuru Kenyatta to China to seek for a loan to fund the Standard Gauge Railway from Naivasha to Kisumu, yet in 2016 he (Raila) had opposed what he termed as a government over-borrowing.
During the program on Thursday night, Yvonne turned her focus on Central Organization of Trade Unions (COTU-K) Secretary General Francis Atwoli for turning labour day celebrations on Wednesday into his show, instead of addressing the plight of workers.
“This year’s celebrations were however marked by low turnout, but also flashy flamboyance complete with performances drawn from as far as DRC apparently chose after the taste of COTU leader Francis Atwoli,” she said.
“An organization that has lived for more than 50 years can surely not just be about one man. It simply cannot be a mere platform for receiving praises and straying into unnecessarily political sycophancy. The Kenyan worker deserves better, much better,” she insisted.
Her sentiments came after a section of politicians who attended the Labour day celebrations at Uhuru Park led by Gatundu MP Moses Kuria accused Atwoli of turning the celebrations into a National Super Alliance (NASA) rally.
