Migori Governor Okoth Obado has hired top criminal lawyer Cliff Ombeta to represent his interests in the ongoing investigations into the mysterious murder of Sharon Otieno, a second-year student at Rongo University.
Ombeta confirmed to journalists that he had been hired by the ODM governor to represent him in the postmortem examination of Sharon’s body that was set to be conducted on Friday.
According to Ombeta, he is representing the governor on the fact that his name has been wrongly mentioned in the murder probe.
“I am representing the governor as his lawyer in the postmortem exercise and the whole investigations,” Ombeta said on phone on Friday.
Ombeta is a seasoned criminal lawyer and has represented clients in high profile murder cases.
The Nairobi based lawyer is representing five Administration Police officers who are facing trial over the murder of lawyer Willy Kimani, his client and driver.
Kimani was killed in 2015 and his body found dumped in Oldonyo-sabuk river.
Ombeta is also representing a key suspect linked to the attempted murder of former Garissa Finance executive Idriss Mukhtar.
Investigations into Sharon’s murder has intensified with detectives saying that she might have been raped before being killed.
Detectives claim that used condoms were found at the scene of the murder.
Police are holding Governor Obado’s Personal Assistant Michael Oyamo in connection with the murder as leaders call for a speedy probe.
