However, they pose a great health risk not many people are aware of.

1. Skin infections

This occurs when the tattoo is still fresh. The infections will result from handling the skin tattooed without the hygiene required. You will notice swelling of the area, redness, discharge or even itchiness. In case this situation is not contained, it can be chronic and lead to increased skin infections.

2. Allergic reactions

This can result immediately after one gets the tattoo or later in life. It is caused by the pigment and inks used to make the tattoo. These reactions are characterized by rashes on the tattoo, severe pain and itchiness.

3. Risk of getting diseases

Using unsterilized needles in the making of the tattoo may expose you to the risk of getting blood-borne diseases such as Hepatitis B, C, Tetanus and also HIV. In case you wish to get one, make sure that the tattoo artist has sterilized the instruments or used new ones.

Tattoos could also lead cancer due to the use of multicoloured inks especially on the skin with moles or birthmarks. Ensure also that you take care of the tattoo as told by the artist to avoid infection of a fresh tattoo.
