Kimilili Member of Parliament Dismus Barasa has disassociated himself with the Jubilee government.
Speaking on Radio Maisha on Monday morning, the Jubilee Party member maintained that he is not in government, despite being in office courtesy of the President Uhuru Kenyatta-led Jubilee Party.
He added that no lawmaker is part of the government, pointing out that the nation’s top leadership only includes the President, his deputy William Ruto, Cabinet Secretaries and other senior state officials.
‘’Mimi siko kwa serikali na hakuna mbunge yeyote yule aliye serikalini. Kuchaguliwa kwetu kwa tikiti ya Jubilee haitufanyi sehemu ya serikali (our membership of the ruling Jubilee Party does not make us part of government),’’ he said.
Barasa has been faulting the government’s operations lately, especially National Treasury Cabinet Secretary Henry Rotich, over alleged incompetence, regarding the now fading contraband sugar importation saga and now the 16 per cent fuel price increment.
He pointed out that he will, therefore, be on the frontline in condemning the leadership whenever it makes a wrong move, in line with his responsibility as a member of the legislative arm of government.
‘’Kazi yangu ni kuchunguza na kufuatilia kazi ambazo serikali inafanya (my job is to instead keep the government on toes),’’ he added.
Uhuru has, however, since reduced the Value Added Tax on fuel by half, proposing an 8 per cent increment instead.
