The lawmaker said the plan should be halted because it is meant to steal from Kenyans.

Obiri argued that public participation was not given a chance before the government decided to roll out the program.

"There is no way people can be deducted their monies without proper procedures being followed. The deduction is a scheme meant to steal from poor Kenyans," he said.

The legislator reiterated that he will not shy off opposing the levy deductions because it will end up becoming a scheme to steal from Kenyans.

The MP challenged MPs to gang up and oppose the levy deductions initiative adding that the monies to be deducted may end up in few individuals' pockets.

"Let the government first finish the theft of public money before coming up with initiatives to deduct people money. Cartels who have stolen public money must be compelled to give back the money instead of deducting poor citizens their hardly earned money," he stated.

He was speaking on Tuesday in Sameta.
