Senate Speaker Kenneth Lusaka has asked the Abagusii community to support Deputy President William Ruto's 2022 bid, arguing that the DP will form the next government.
The DP is scheduled to return to Nyamira this Friday, barely three weeks after visiting West Mugirango Constituency, a trip that saw several MPs rally support behind him.
However, a number of leaders from the region led by Governor John Nyagarama are fronting Interior CS Fred Matiang'i as a presidential candidate, arguing that he's fit to take over from President Uhuru Kenyatta when he retires in 2022.
Speaking at Amabuko Secondary School on Monday, Lusaka said the Gusii community should back Dr Ruto's bid to avoid being left out of the government.
"All indications are that Dr Ruto is our next president. From Western Kenya, we have decided to back him so that we form government. This should be the correct destination for Abagusii," he said.
His sentiments were echoed by Nyaribari Masaba MP Ezekiel Machogu who said the Abagusii community will support the DP in the next polls.
"He has done wonders and we shall not abandon him. We shall be counted as those who stood with him at the hour of need," said the first-term MP.
On his part, Kisii Deputy Governor Joash Maangi said the campaigns to drum up support for the DP are underway, adding that Ruto shall win both in Nyamira and Kisii Counties.
