After a year of attempting to save the Mau Forest from encroachers and destruction, Narok Senator Ledama Ole Kina has resorted to another technique to protect the forest.
In a tweet in Sunday, the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM)-allied Senator announced plans to fence off the forest in a bid to rid it of destructive elements.
The project, he said, will begin in a few weeks, after he spearheaded a campaign to replant some of the lost trees late last year, a job that was largely done using an aeroplane.
"Just so you know, I will begin fencing of Mau Forest in a few weeks, then the naysayers can finally begin to sing my song!" he tweeted.
Ledama seems to have taken it upon himself to save the water catchment zone which doubles up as the starting point of some of the nation's most important rivers.
This follows attempts by the county administration to evict illegal forest inhabiters last year, in an exercise that was led by area County Commissioner George Natembeya.
The Mau issue was also turned into a basis for politicking after some area and Rift Valley politicians came out to condemn the manner in which the evictions were being done.
Let it be remembered that the forest was also the main issue that led to the fallout between opposition leader Raila Odinga and Deputy President William Ruto.
His was after Raila began a campaign to evict illegal inhabiters, leading to Ruto walking out of the ODM party in protest in 2010.
