Visiting the town day or night, you will bump into street beggars at strategic points.

Some of the street beggars are strategically placed outside shopping malls, ATMs, bus stops, shops and entertainment joints.

The Machakos county government is said to be working on policies to get rid of street beggars from the town.

A section of residents has been raising concerns over deteriorating security in Machakos town with claims that some street beggars collude with criminals.

While the majority of street beggars could have genuine cases, some don’t and are pace don the streets to make money.

Here are tricks some Machakos street beggars employ to get money from people:

1. Faking ailments

Some street beggars fake scary ailments in order to solicit for money or help.

Such beggars go to an extent of smearing blood on their bodies or making scars to solicit for help.

2. Using sick children

Some street beggars in Machakos use sick children to get money.

Such beggars use children to seek sympathy from people.

In most cases, the children are laid on the ground and sometimes blood smeared on their bodies to attract attention.

3. Using minors

Some beggars use minors to beg from people.

When visiting Machakos, you will be confronted by young girls and boys asking for money or food.

4. Pretending to be lost

Some beggars pretend to be lost in an effort of getting your attention.

Once you offer to help, the beggars then 'pour' their problems to you.

While it is not bad to offer help to beggars, you need to be careful on people who fake things to get your sympathy.
