Backton Agaro, who hails from Vihiga County, was arrested by anti-terror police after he allegedly asked for directions to Somalia.

According to detectives, the suspect travelled from Nairobi destined to Garissa but found himself in Mandera.

Anti-terror detectives say that the suspect was in possession of a note-book detailing all the towns he had visited in Kenya.

Questioned on his motives, the suspect claimed that he was invited to Garissa by his friend for a construction job.

On Friday, detecives arraigned the suspect in court where they sought orders to detain him for further investigation.

The anti-terror police said they are hunting down for other people who have been in communication with the suspect.

When presented before Mandera Resident Magistrate Duncan Mtai, the suspect denied claims of spying for Al-Shabaab.

He also denied police claims that he was asking for directions to Somalia.

The suspect told court that he only asked for a place to sleep since he arrived in Mandera late in the night.

The Magistrate granted anti-terror detectives seven days to hold the suspect and complete investigations.

Security has been tightened up in North Eastern region as anti-terror police continue to hunt for more suspects linked to the Dusit terror attack in Nairobi that left 21 people dead on January 15.
