Nairobi governor Mike Mbuvi Sonko has thanked the Machakos County Assembly for naming a road after his late father Gideon Kioko Kivanguli.
In a post on his official Facebook account, Sonko expressed his gratitude terming the assembly's decision as was a great move.
"I want to thank the Machakos County Assembly for unanimously passing a motion to rename the Mua-Kaloleni road to Kivanguli road in honour my late dad Gideon Kioko Mbuvi Kivanguli," reads part of the governor's post.
"Mzee Kivanguli played a key role in the development of Mua Hills area and the larger Machakos County," he added.
The motion to rename the road was tabled by Mark Muendo who is the Kinanie MCA and also the Assembly's Majority Leader.
In his motion, Muendo urged the Machakos county government to name the road connecting Machakos and Kangundo to Mombasa road through Mua and Kaloleni as Kivanguli road.
The motion was approved by the assembly during a sitting on Tuesday.
We should always honour our leaders through such gesture. Kivanguli was a great leader who should always be remembered," said the MCA during the debate of the motion.
