Police in Thika, Kiambu County are holding two women over allegations of robbery.

Mary Nyaguthii Mathari and Mary Nyamwea Githiaka were on Friday arrested by detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) over allegations of drugging and robbing unsuspecting persons.

The two are accused of using suspicious drugs to knock their victims unconscious before making away with their valuables.

The DCI has noted that the suspects were nabbed following a tip-off from the public. The detectives revealed that the two women have been using Stilnox tablets to stupefy people in clubs.

“Detectives working on intelligence today arrested two ladies; Mary Nyaguthii Mathari and Mary Nyamwea Gathiaka in Thika for drugging unsuspecting victims before robbing them off.  Several tablets of Stilnox drugs used to stupefy people in clubs & several SIM cards recovered,” the DCI said in a tweet on Friday.

Several sim cards registered under different names which the police believe are used to withdraw stolen money were also confiscated by the officers.

The duo is set to be presented in court on Monday.

"The SIM cards which were registered in different names are believed to have been used to withdraw money from the victims Bank accounts. The two suspects will be arraigned in court on Monday. The two suspects will be charged with the offence of stealing and stupefying," added the DCI.
